Valencia – a favourite place in Spain

Sky enjoying a chin rub

This was our second visit to Valencia, Spain. We had visited in 2016 and fallen in love with this beautiful Spanish city and vowed to return one day.

As it happened, when we saw a house sit posted on House Sit Match in Valencia we quickly applied. We were extremely happy to have been selected to care for Skye and Bella, two lovely beagles.

Our homeowners, Kemi & Federico, were very welcoming and Federico (born in Italy) cooked us up some wonderful Italian dishes before they left on their holiday. He even provided some of his trademark cooking secrets!!!

Sky (M) and Bella (F) were two very easy to care for pooches and spent most of their day snoozing on the couch.

Bella occasionally suffers from seizures and the management of this was discussed with the owners. However, during our stay she remained seizure free.

Our routine was a daily walk for Sky and Bella around the block but we often took Sky out for extra walks which he really enjoyed.

Ready for their morning walk around the block

This was our first time sitting Beagles and we didn’t realise how ‘food oriented’ they can be. They would be sleeping on the couch and you would open the fridge or cupboard door and Sky (especially) was right behind you. To manage this desire for food Sky and Bella were on a strict diet and only given treats at before their bedtime ‘pee-pee’.

The location of this sit was ideal as it was a short 10-15 minute walk into the historic centre of Valencia. Sky and Bella were able to be left during the day for 4-5 hours so this gave us ample time to explore this wonderful city on foot and visit some amazing places. We love the Valencia Mercado (Market) and all the wonderful fresh produce to be found there. We visited the imposing Serranos Tower, the 13th Century Valencia Cathedral (and saw (what purports to be) the Holy Grail) and the beautiful 15th Century Silk Exchange.

Federico is a passionate football fan and supports Lazio in the Italian Serie A League. Our arrival co-incided with a purple patch of results for his team so Glenn was deemed Federico’s good luck charm. As such, we have been invited back anytime during the soccer season!

What the home owners said – “..It was easy communicating with them and everything went so smoothly. They are organized, competent and friendly people. We would absolutely have them watch our dogs anytime without reservation. …”
