In February 2019 we accepted a 2 week house sit in Hampshire, England caring for sheep and pigs on a small rural holding. The sit would be in April and we were told that even though it would be lambing season there would be no additional responsibilities. The sheep would look after themselves and their lambs however prior to arrival things had changed.Continue reading “Caring for a pair of orphan Lambs”
We did a total of 6 house sits during our 5 months in Mexico (Oct 2018 – March 2019). Our previous post “House Sitting in Mexico part 1” covered our first three sits so this post will cover the other three we did in Puerto Vallarta, Patzcuaro and San Miguel de Allende.
Puerto Vallarta – Bubba and Carlye
Puerto Vallarta (also known as PV) is located on the Pacific Ocean on the west coast of Mexico. The climate here is generally very hot and humid however January (when we were there) is the best time to visit as the temperatures are always in the 20’s (Celsius) and the humidity decreases.
Having spent the previous 2½ months inland (at an elevation of 5,000ft) in the Lake Chapala area where the temperatures are lower and ‘chilly’ overnight, it was pleasing to experience warm days and evenings.Continue reading “House Sitting in Mexico (part 2)”
Colourful festivals, music and horses ridden down the main street are just a few of our fondest memories of Mexico. We spent 5 months there (Oct 2018 – March 2019) and during that time we completed six house sits and cared for 9 dogs, 4 cats and a herd of goats. The pets ranged in age from 5 months to 19 years. Like children, it’s hard to pick a favourite, we loved them all equally.
We sat in a variety of locations – which allowed us to experience many, but not all, of the different cultures that make up Mexico.Continue reading “House Sitting in Mexico (part 1)”
Here we are house sitting in a town called March (in the United Kingdom) which is a silly name because it makes you think of the month March and not a town.
Nevertheless we are looking after a beautiful, fluffy Samoyed called Freddie. Our time here is only nine days but long enough to explore this pretty town and nearby Peterborough which is a historical city with a beautiful cathedral.Continue reading “Fun with Freddie”
We stayed on in Edinburgh for a 2nd house sit during July looking after the delightful, and tiny, ‘Cookie’. She is a 4 year old JUG (Jack Russell x Pug) and a tiny girl that has her bed set-up at the front window.
She’s an excellent guard dog as anyone who walks up to the front door will get the ‘full force’ of her barking and for a little dog she makes a lot of noise – she particularly dislikes the postman!Continue reading “Cookie – a gorgeous wee Jug”
We lived in Edinburgh for 8 years back in the nineties and noughties and were very excited when we secured two house sits in our old ‘home’ town. The first sit was a little unusual as the house sit was divided between two sets of sitters. We were getting a handover from the first sitter and not the home owner. It all worked fine however and there were no problems.
Our home for this 7 day sit was a lovely two storey home with it’s own private backyard, only a short walk from where we used to live in Edinburgh.
Our sit in Mount Martha was the only one we did during our stint in Australia that wasn’t for friends.
It was also ‘different’ for us because we met the homeowners, Rose and Cassie, in person at their home in Mount Martha before the sit. It was just after we arrived in Australia in February but our house sit for them wasn’t until April. We discussed the requirements of the sit and care for the animals and were given a set of house keys. This was the first, and only time, we saw Rose and Cassie as they were departing early in the morning on the day of our arrival. They were also returning home after we had left the property. We kept in regular contact and provided updates and photos during their 8-day break via WhatsApp. Continue reading “Laid back in Mount Martha, Melbourne”
On this sit we found ourselves looking after two tiny Jack Russells for three weeks for a friend we have known for over 20 years.
These ‘two girls’ have a very different personality from the dogs at our previous sit.
When we arrived at Andrew’s house, Marlie was excited and nervous at the same time. She spent at least five minutes barking at us while making up her mind whether or not she liked us. Thankfully she decided she ‘liked us’ and we became very good friends.
We spent 2 months house sitting in Australia starting in February 2018. It was great to be ‘home’ to see friends and family again after being away for almost a year. However, it did feel ‘odd’ house sitting close to where we used to live as we had previously only house sat in locations outside of Australia.
We secured 4 house sits for our time in Australia. Three of them were for friends, which was fantastic. Besides already knowing the ‘home owners’ it enabled us to spend additional time with them as we hadn’t seen them for several years.
