Fun with Freddie

Here we are house sitting in a town called March (in the United Kingdom) which is a silly name because it makes you think of the month March and not a town.

Nevertheless we are looking after a beautiful, fluffy Samoyed called Freddie. Our time here is only nine days but long enough to explore this pretty town and nearby Peterborough which is a historical city with a beautiful cathedral.

Cookie – a gorgeous wee Jug

We stayed on in Edinburgh for a 2nd house sit during July looking after the delightful, and tiny, ‘Cookie’. She is a 4 year old JUG  (Jack Russell x Pug) and a tiny girl that has her bed set-up at the front window.

She’s an excellent guard dog as anyone who walks up to the front door will get the ‘full force’ of her barking and for a little dog she makes a lot of noise – she particularly dislikes the postman!

Edinburgh – back to our second home

We lived in Edinburgh for 8 years back in the nineties and noughties and were very excited when we secured two house sits in our old ‘home’ town. The first sit was a little unusual as the house sit was divided between two sets of sitters. We were getting a handover from the first sitter and not the home owner. It all worked fine however and there were no problems.

Our home for this 7 day sit was a lovely two storey home with it’s own private backyard, only a short walk from where we used to live in Edinburgh.

Megan and Bruno

Walking through the grain fields with Megan (L) and Bruno (R)

July saw us in Widdington, not far from Cambridge, in another beautiful, wee village in Essex. This village has no shops, but it does have a local hall, bus stop and a pub which was only 3 doors down from us.

Three Days With TOSH

IMG_20170701_174222318

We had another short break between sits in late June, so we headed to Bedfordshire to care for Tosh, an adorable 8 year old Welsh Terrier, while his mum and dad went away on a Fiat Barchetta car club weekend.

Tosh was a sweet, gentle, friendly dog with a few peculiar habits.

3 days in Cambridge with Huxley

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Between our house sits in France and Bramshill in the UK we had 4 days to fill in.

We normally use these ‘gaps’ as an opportunity to have a break from house sitting and have a ‘proper’ holiday. We were keen to go back and visit Cambridge, a lovely university town on the River Cam that we had briefly visited in 2016 when house sitting in Berkhamsted.

We booked flights to Stansted Airport, which is the closest airport to Cambridge, but before booking accommodation, decided to wait and see if a house sit might come up in Cambridge that fitted our dates. As luck would have it one did and the dates were perfect.

House Sitting

Lexi, Claudia & Saffie

On the road again for a short house sit of 5 days in High Wycombe, which is about 40 mins from London, to look after Lexi – a 4 year old Cockapoo and two beautiful cats – Claudia and Saffie.

When house sitting we always plan to arrive the day prior to the owners leaving to provide ample time to meet our new ‘family’ and familiarize ourselves with their routine as well as the house. Unfortunately, the best laid plans do not always come to fruition.

Living with 5 Cavaliers

20160623_220609 reducedLiving with, and caring for, 5 dogs may sound like a lot of work, but these Cavalier King Charles Spaniels were well behaved – well for most of the time anyway. This sit found us in the West of Scotland, 45 minutes south of Glasgow, staying in a 3 bedroom home, in a ‘wee’ village of 6 houses with 5 King Charles Spaniels Cavaliers for 2 1/2 weeks.
